Standing Up for Children in Foster Care

Supporting CASA During Child Abuse Prevention Month

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, encouraging prevention, and standing in solidarity with the hundreds of children affected by abuse and neglect each year in our communities in southern Illinois. It is also an opportunity to highlight the life-changing work of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteers who ensure that children navigating the child welfare system are seen, heard, and supported.

Why Child Abuse Prevention Month Matters

Child abuse and neglect can leave lasting emotional, physical, and developmental impacts. While awareness alone cannot solve the problem, education, advocacy, and community involvement play a critical role in prevention and healing. Child Abuse Prevention Month reminds us that protecting children is a shared responsibility, one that requires action!

Every child deserves a safe home, stability, and someone who is in their corner. For children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect, the journey through the court system can be overwhelming and confusing. That’s where CASA steps in.

The presence of a CASA advocate can be transformational. Studies consistently show that children with CASA volunteers are more likely to find safe, permanent homes, receive necessary services, and experience greater stability while their cases are open.

How You Can Support CASA This April
